When natural gas is obtained from a coal seam, it is known as coal seam gas or coal bed methane. This gas bonds to the surface of underground coal seams, which are generally filled with water. The pressure of this water makes the gas form a thin film on the surface of the coal.
Petroleum (CSG) may also be added to a mining lease to mine for coal under the Mining Act 1992. The Government is developing requirements in relation to management of extracted water from CSG wells.
Coal Seam Gas (CSG), which as its name implies is extracted from seams of coal underground, is known as 'unconventional gas'. Other unconventional gas sources are shale beds and socalled 'tight gas' fields where gas is bound up in rocks which need to be shaken up or 'fractured' so the gas can be extracted.
Coal seam gas water. To produce coal seam gas (CSG), wells are drilled into underground coal seams, bringing water (CSG water) from the seams to the surface. This process reduces pressure in the seams which allows CSG to be released. The quality of CSG water quality varies greatly, however it is generally rich in salts and other minerals.
Coal Seam Gas. Coal seam gas (CSG) mining is a risky form of unconventional gas extraction that threatens land, water and human health. Get The Facts: Adani Coal Mine. This megamine in central QLD will put groundwater at risk and permanently alter the landscape. Help us stop Adani!
Jul 21, 2017· The extraction of coal and coal seam gas (CSG) will generate produced water that, if not adequately treated, will pollute surface and groundwater systems. In Australia, the discharge of produced water from coal mining and related activities is regulated by the state environment agency through a pollution licence.

Coal Seam Gas In conjunction with industry partners, Osmoflo has developed world leading solutions for the treatment and beneficial use of the wastewater and salt .
Coal seam gas (CSG) is natural gas mainly composed of methane, the odourless and colourless gas used in homes and businesses. Natural gas from coal seams is used in exactly the same way as other natural gas, for cooking, heating, electricity production and to make products such as fertilisers.
Coal Seam Gas is Separated From Water While Still Underground Once a coal seam gas well has been drilled it becomes the only way gas and water trapped in the cleat can reach the surface. Water is separated from the gas before it reaches the surface, the water, once separated is transferred to a collection facility where it is treated.

Aug 15, 2011· And both coal seam gas and shale gas produce about half the CO₂ of brown coal. In North America today, about 2025% of the total gas consumed comes from shale gas deposits.
Enhanced coal bed methane and carbon storage project with China Earth Science and Resource Engineering (CSIRO, Australian Government) In this CSIROled project, 460 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) was injected into a coal seam using a multilateral horizontal well.
