On August 1, 2012, a massive mining spill causing the release of million tons of toxic tailings into water bodies, occurred at the Philex Padcal mine, located in Benguet province. In terms of volume, the spill was ten times larger than the unprecedented 1996 Marcopper mine disaster.
Mining Inspector Reports. Michigan counties had a county appointed Mine Inspector. Part of their duties were to tour the mines and report annually the accidents and deaths that occurred. These were generally published yearly and cover October 1st to September 30th of the next year. Mining reports exist for the years 1889 1971.
